About Our Candidate:We are looking for someone who is excited about an opportunity to disrupt an industry by leading the design and UX team creating the BacklotCars marketplace and next-generation automotive platform - someone who is a passionate and focused User Experience Director who can solve complex problems from diverse perspectives, contexts and research inputs.You will be charged not only with redesigning but reimagining customer experiences while guiding other members of the design team to do likewise. You will drive the design process spanning from synthesizing insights to visualizing ideas, as well as threading design and business thinking together to deliver inventive, durable and thoughtful solutions from concept to launch. Given we are a relatively small but growing team, you will recognize the need to be a player-coach, building a team over time but doing user research and prototyping work in support of progression of the product/marketplace based on the most critical needs for the business.What You Will Be Doing:Lead the conversation with customers: Be a conduit between the business and our customers. Lead and perform hands-on user research and testing, develop customer models (personas, activity models, etc.) and map customer journeys.Solve for customer needs: Work closely with Product Management, Engineering and various stakeholders across the business to conceive ideas and solutions that meet user needs and best practices, while balancing business and technical requirements.Quickly construct interactive prototypes with initial low fidelity visual designs that illustrate the UX/UI design that present a realistic feel of the intended experience and leverage our existing design system to accelerate the resulting development.Analyze user behavior through a combination of qualitative and quantitative sources. Define user personas to clarify this behavior and create simple, recognizable vignettes of our customers that can help us solve for their needs.Collaborate with designers, product managers and engineers to prioritize research/UX/design opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.Lead, mentor and recruit a team of UX designers and visual designers.Develop UX design processes and guidelines for our products, ensuring best practices are followed across the UX design team. Create and maintain detailed user-interface specifications and design patterns, style guides and the design system (i.e., presentation control library).Be accountable and deliver quality UX requirements, user stories and other artifacts works.Be a storyteller by presenting design work with cross-functional value streams and business stakeholders, ensuring all recommendations are technically sound and feasible. Use a variety of methods to convey ideas and concepts (e.g. storyboards, wireframes, prototypes, etc.). Communicate research finding, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually.Inspire innovative approaches to design, using creative facilitation techniques and taking the lead in internal company workshops, concept/design sprints, and external design events.You Should Have the Following:BA/BS degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, or related field.At least 10 years of professional experience as UX Strategist or UX Architect on high profile projects involving international, remote teams. These projects have involved research, design, IA, wireframing, whiteboarding, user/task flow, rapid prototyping to capture data-driven user interaction, functionality and experience.Desire to roll up your sleeves, execute, and create order and processes within a dynamic growing startup.A clear ability to communicate the balance of user needs, business objectives, and technology constraints to key stakeholders.Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, communication and presentation skills.Demonstrated success working on large and complex digital projects.Ability to
