Description

As our Quality Excellence Senior Lab Technician, you’ll need to have a strong results-orientation, and the ability to balance multiple tasks. In addition to performing standard testing, you will assist engineers on projects, consult with and train others, help maintain testing databases, and help identify changes to protocols or equipment that can improve accuracy or efficiency. You'll support various customer groups from innovation through production by conducting standard material and mechanical tests on various types of products. You’ll discuss test objectives with internal customers (i.e., engineers, etc.) to determine appropriate test protocols and timelines. You’ll prepare samples, collect and organize data, prepare written reports and communicate results to the requestor. You'll assist engineers with new product and process validations to assure effective operation and control. You’ll assist our product auditing team by calibrating laboratory equipment and measurement tools. You'll also support manufacturing in identifying root cause and corrective actions to prevent further production of undesirable product, and continuous improvement opportunities or to improve daily practices. This opportunity also involves compiling and analyzing data to detect trends and identify the need for quality improvement for both manufacturing processes and lab equipment operation. In addition, you'll develop procedures, work instructions, product visual standards and other training materials.

Responsibilities

Provides technical support to quality engineering and manufacturing departments.

Performs product, process, measurement and test equipment evaluations, analyzes and reports results.

Works with manufacturing to identify root cause and corrective actions and prevent customer returns or production of undesirable product.

Participates on cross-functional experimental and/or improvement project teams.

Develops process flow charts, work instructions, and product visual standards.

Provides training for mfg. operators, Qx shift techs, etc. in the assessment of product, and the implementation of improvement projects.

Qualifications

A High School diploma or any combination of education and experience in quality assurance, statistics, numerical analysis or problem solving.

Experience using measurement equipment, generating and organizing quality data for decision-making.

Experience calibrating laboratory equipment and precision measuring tools.

Strong use of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel & PowerPoint required);

Experience with Vintara quality software, InfinityQS SPC software and Visio flow-charting software preferred.

Success working with ambiguity (verbal instruction, changes, etc.)

Understanding of quality and quality of work.

Ability to work independently to complete a task with moderate levels of supervision.

Eagerness to learn, try new things, excel.

Training comprehension/quickness of grasping new concepts.

Volunteerism - willingness to offer to do more than expected.

Visual acuity - ability to discern samples against standards.

Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Skills in concisely communicating information both verbally and in writing.

Experience with problem solving, multi-tasking and training others to complete job-related tasks

Experience creating or modifying training aids, work instructions and reports of technical data, preferred.

Ability to operate hand measurement and laboratory test equipment.

Strong math skills required. Understanding of statistical terms and basic analysis, preferred.

Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes.

Visual acuity, including color vision.

Ability to move throughout the manufacturing area for extended periods of time.

Experience working in a plastics environment is a plus.
