Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated Agronomic Research Specialist with the ability to work as part of a centralized seed processing center in Hazelwood, MO to join a growing team focused on delivering high quality research seed within the Global Breeding organization. The Agronomic Research Specialist reports to the local Seed Center Lead and supports seed processing, packaging and distribution within Monsanto's broad field testing network.  

The successful candidate will have interactions with Global Breeding personnel across the globe including multi-crop interactions spanning corn, soybeans, cotton, and wheat, as well as with breeders, scientists, automation engineers, and software developers. In addition, this role will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge proprietary seed processing and packaging technology.



  • Primary oversight of seed processing operations on site ensuring quality, accuracy and timely delivery to field testing hubs globally

  • Support Seed Center Lead in capacity management, forecasting, and prioritization of seed processing and delivery

  • Ensure execution of processing protocols as defined in partnership with breeders, scientists, and field testing teams

  • Manage seed and trial inventory and distribution and coordinate physical seed movement between North America field testing hubs and to/from winter seed production locations, including locations outside of the United States

  • Supplies forecasting and procurement of material and supplies

  • Provide process improvement leadership for existing and future workflows to drive continuous improvement

  • Training and supervision of temporary employees

  • Collaborate with developers to provide software requirements for machine and process control (automation)

  • Accountable for quality control and continual assessment of processes against established key performance metrics

  • Perform safety inspections, and assist in providing safety training and guidance to field personnel. Participate with the team to successfully maintain the Quality Management Standards

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Plant and Soil Science, Agricultural Systems Management, Mechanized Systems Management, Agricultural Systems Technology, Supply Chain Management Logistics, or related field

  • Strong computer skills related to data capture, organization and analysis

  • Strong foresight, planning, prioritization and organization skills

  • Ability to quickly identify and troubleshoot problems

  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication

  • Ability to work extended hours during peak operational seasons

  • Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and demonstrate leadership

  • Knowledge of research-scale seed processing equipment and best practices

  • Familiarity with plant breeding methodologies

Desired Education and Skills/Experience:

  • Masters of Science Degree

  • Familiarity with breeding methodologies

  • Experience leading large crews

  • Broad knowledge of crop production and farming practices

  • MO Pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain)

  • Knowledge of process improvement principles such as LEAN and/or Six Sigma
