Cigna Infrastructure Engineering Senior Advisor in St. Louis, Missouri

Job Summary:

The Engineer job family is responsible for maintaining a deep, technical knowledge and thorough understanding of solution design, constraints and operational approaches. The Engineer job family develops collaborative partnerships with stakeholders to build and implement technology solutions, as well as actively anticipate and solve problems during and after delivery.

  • May contribute to the development of strategic planning for the department

  • Applies advanced knowledge of professional concepts and company objectives to resolve a wide range of moderately complex issues in creative and effective ways

  • Subject matter expert in more than one area of responsibility; represents team within and outside own department

  • Focus is on operational and strategic activities

  • Assists with project planning; provides technical expertise to project teams and/or leads project teams within area/department

  • Works on large, complex assignments

  • Has significant autonomy over completion of day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new projects or assignments

  • Defines, develops, communicates, and implements standards, processes, and procedures for the team or department

  • Establishes, maintains and fosters relationships both within and outside the team and department

  • Monitors key performance metrics to ensure compliance of established standards, processes, and procedures

Essential Functions:

  • Perform daily monitoring of the network environment

  • Performs high-level technical analysis to identify and resolve network related problems and performance issues

  • Research new technologies, recommend enhancements and configuration changes to improve and optimize the network environment

  • Document policies and procedures to support the network environment and participate in the design and ongoing refinement of procedures and policies

  • Interface with users, external vendors, and customers as necessary

  • Ability to lead issue calls to resolution both inside and outside of responsibility area.

  • Must be highly versed in the following technologies:

  • BigIP

  • CheckPoint

  • Cisco

  • Coding network automation and self-healing environments

  • Solar Winds

  • Infoblox

  • VPNs

  • Route/Switch

  • Takes an active role in applying advanced methods, theories and research techniques to establish ongoing direction, specification, design, development and implementation of technology vision and strategy

  • Accurately scopes deliverable including dependencies, risks and issues to ensure seamless delivery, technology effectiveness and security

  • Provides guidance and oversight on technical matters within a solution to ensure that the technologies are secure, interoperate and connect appropriately and also support company vision and strategy

  • Collaborates with Architects and recommends adjustments to the architecture to improve the overall quality of a solution

  • Listens to and evaluates customer needs to determine and provide high quality solutions that align with customer expectations; Identifies opportunities for improvement; ensures others are aligned with customer expectations

  • Actively coaches, mentors and teaches others; uses influence, expertise and leadership to support other teams as they implement technology solutions

  • Protects our customers, our employees, and our brands by incorporating security and compliance in all decisions; ensures security policy and procedure requirements are met; continuously identifies opportunities for improving security and implements strategies to improve our security posture

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of related experience OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a normal office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.

  • Substantial time is spent working on a computer. Light physical effort is required, including the handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds and some standing, walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, grasping, lifting, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the role responsibilities.

  • Individual work location may change or vary and the position may require significant local travel to other locations due to business need.

  • Environment can be demanding and fast paced.

  • Work schedule is generally 40 hours a week, but hours could exceed 40 based on goals, expectations, and demands of area. May be on call as needed.
