As a Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for the oversight of our substation engineering services. Some of the main responsibilities will be to provide technical and hands-on support to others in creating substation design deliverables.
This position will also be involved in business development and company initiatives, which may include establishing business strategies and objectives.
Manage and provide technical leadership during proposal, design, and construction stages of substation projects
Define design scopes, best practices, procedures, and criteria for medium to high-voltage substation projects
Perform electrical calculations such as grounding touch and step potentials, short circuit study, protective device coordination, one line diagram development, protective relaying, and substation switchyard layouts
Manage the performance of the team and delegate project work
Plan, organize and manage the day to day activities of substation projects from inception through completion
Oversee substation design and quality assurance and control
Lead coordination of design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Transmission Line, etc.)
Maintain a high level of quality and responsiveness to client requirements in alignment with Pickett’s standards
Interact regularly with clients, which includes maintaining current relationships and developing new relationships
Lead meetings with internal and external stakeholders
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required)
Professional Engineer (PE) (required)
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (preferred)
Minimum of 10 years of hands on power delivery engineering or substation consulting experience (required)
Solid understanding of substation project scopes and deliverables
Strong experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation
Knowledge with the operation and design of substation SCADA and Telecom systems
Strong understanding of substation protection and control design and industry standards
Skilled with liaising substation, transmission, environmental, real estate, construction, and maintenance stakeholders
Demonstrated ability in the application of engineering theories and principles
Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing, and presenting recommendations
Ability to work in a safe manner and always obey safety regulations
Capable of being a self-starter with the ability to thrive in an unstructured, varied and schedule driven work environment
Strong ability to collaborate with team members as well as peers in the electrical utility industry
Effective communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) Able to communicate technical matters in an understandable and efficient manner
Ability to travel up to 20% and work outside normal business hours
