Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for processing newly arrested prisoners. Duties include: assessing initial security levels appropriate for prisoners, placing them in proper cells and processing documents relative to their arrest, booking and final release. In order to be considered for this position applicants must be available to work all shifts which includes days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. When necessary, Prisoner Processing Clerks must be able to work mandatory overtime. Candidates must provide their availability for shift and weekend assignments on the Availability Section of the Employment Application.

A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.); plus one year of experience working in basic security, law enforcement, or in a jail and/or correctional facility. OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Certification: Must be able to obtain REJIS certification by completion of the working test period. Prisoner Processing Clerks must maintain their REJIS certification as a condition of their employment.
Skill in using word processing and/or database software applications, REJIS Certification and CPR training.

MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the Medical examination. Incumbents are subject to random Drug Screen and Alcohol Tests as a condition of their employment.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
