About The Opportunity

The Aerospace FIX transformational project cover 6 sites in the US (El Cajon, Garden Grove, Alabama, St Louis, Cromwell and Orangeburg). The intention is to turn around the sites financially by implementing GKN policies, standards and best practices.

KPMG will provide business transformation support to the sites within the functional areas of General Management, Program Management, Supply Chain and Operations. The support for the transformation of the Technical function shall be provided by the GKN Engineering, Technology and Quality organization.

What you’ll do

The purpose of this role is to support the site Head of Engineering/Technical Director (or equivalent), Program Chief Manufacturing Engineers and other site technical leadership roles in

  • Implementing GKN best practice ETQ working procedures, and

  • Resourcing Programs and Value-Streams/Operations with the capability and capacity to perform the necessary technical work.

Key Responsibilities

  • To ensure that a site achieves the GKN minimum acceptable standard in the key processes of:

  • Zero Defect Manufacture

-Product and process data/configuration management and change control

-Quality system compliance audit finding resolution

-Non-conforming product management and dispositioning

-ETQ organizational structure, roles, responsibilities and ways-of-working (including Leadership Standard Work for the site ETQ team)

  • Ensure the New Product/Process Introduction is undertaken in accordance with O-ME-001.

  • Support the site Technical team to address key product/process quality issues affecting customer delivery compliance (priorities to be defined by Pareto and agree with Site leadership team)

  • Ensuring site has a robust ETQ resource demand and staffing process to provide Programmes and Value Streams with the ETQ capability/capacity needed.

  • Ensure the site a robust process to (a) identify ETQ training needs and (b) to arrange for training to address any gaps identified (with support from the Divisional ETQ team)

  • Support the Head of Engineering/Technical Director (or equivalent) in implementing a Zero Defects Manufacturing (ZDM) mindset and culture in the site (beyond just ETQ function).

  • Support the CME/Program and Head of Engineering/Technical Director (or equivalent) in challenging Product/Process design definition/requirements to achieve zero defects in the site Value Streams.

About you

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in engineering, science; advanced degree in engineering preferred.

  • 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

  • 1 year of experience managing Manufacturing Engineering & Quality aspects of Product/Process Introduction (Industrialization) &/or significant production process improvements

  • 1 year of experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning and Process Control methods and tools

  • U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements (if required for site)

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience as site Head of Manufacturing Engineering & Quality (or equivalent)Introduction of Central/Divisional business processes to local practices (ME & Q in-particular)

  • Ability to influence people and navigate effectively through a highly matrixed organization.

  • Ability to build trust and establish effective working relationship with site technical teams

  • Experience in changing and transforming operations and in engaging people in that change.

  • Working knowledge of Lean processes and practices, product process data management and configuration control

  • GKN experience

  • Candidates must be U.S. Persons with the ability to pass a government background investigation for a DoD Security Clearance at the secret level. Candidates will also be subject to an employment background investigation to include but not limited to: criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and creditworthiness. The clearance must be maintained during the time of employment.
